Black and White Quiz Night turns into therapy session at Revive Kololo

Quiz nights have grown into one of Kampala’s most popular ways of unwinding after a long day, blending entertainment, learning and social connection. What began as a simple trivia activity has gradually evolved into a weekly ritual with a loyal following that consistently shows up whenever it is quiz time.

‎Last night, that community gathered at Revive Restaurant in Kololo for the latest Black & White-powered Quiz Night. By the time the first question was asked, most participants had already come from demanding days filled with deadlines, meetings, traffic jams and the constant flow of digital notifications that define modern life.

‎Yet within minutes, the mood in the room shifted. The pressure of the day faded into laughter, friendly debates, playful exchanges among teammates and lively competition. It is one of the defining features of Kampala’s growing quiz culture, where people arrive carrying the weight of their day but leave feeling lighter, more connected and energised.

‎For many regular participants, quiz night has become more than just entertainment, it is a weekly ritual they genuinely look forward to.

‎In a city where working hours often stretch late into the evening and digital screens constantly demand attention, these gatherings offer something increasingly rare, an opportunity to be fully present. Phones are set aside, conversations become more engaging and for a moment, the focus shifts to whether a team can identify a song from a five second clip, recall a distant capital city or settle a heated debate over a seemingly simple question.

‎According to Raymond Karama, Black & White Brand Manager, the experience has grown into something far deeper than competition.

‎“After months of quiz nights across Kampala, one thing has become clear. People are no longer showing up simply to win prizes, they come for the people,” he said.

‎“I always have busy days at the hospital, and by the end of the day my body and mind are completely exhausted,” said Calvin Mukiibi, a medical doctor. “I attend quiz nights as a way of washing away the day’s challenges and reconnecting with people.”

‎That sense of connection runs through the entire evening. Newcomers are quickly drawn into conversations, regular attendees know each other by name and friendly rivalries have become part of the experience.

‎“People keep coming back because they have found a community that shares the same values,” said Matilda Kavuma, the quiz master for the evening. “Everyone is lively, welcoming, and genuinely supportive. The spirit of friendship and togetherness is so strong that newcomers quickly feel like they belong. We go beyond quiz night enjoyment and support each other’s businesses, celebrate birthdays, and show up for one another.”

‎Perhaps that is why quiz nights have become a permanent feature on Kampala’s social calendar. What started as a casual activity for a small group of enthusiasts has grown into a thriving culture embraced by young professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives and groups of friends looking for a meaningful way to unwind.

‎Quiz nights now combine entertainment, learning and social bonding, with the growing community showing that sometimes the best form of therapy comes in the shape of a question, a team and a room full of people eager to learn, laugh and belong.
